How YG is changing from its hood roots to reach global markets in seek of growth.

It’s almost the opposite of what is taught in business school. An executive who worked at both Apple and Microsoft described the differences this way: “Microsoft tries to find pockets of unrealized revenue and then figures out what to make. Apple is just the opposite: It thinks of great products, then sells them. Prototypes and demos always come before spreadsheets.”
Quite true, but creating greatness requires talent and discipline.
They can do it because Apple hasn’t optimized its organization to maximize profit. Instead, it has made the creation of value for customers its priority. When you do this, the fear of cannibalization or disruption of one’s self just melts away. In fact, when your mission is based around creating customer value, around creating great products, cannibalization and disruption aren’t “bad things” to be avoided. They’re things you actually strive for — because they let you improve the outcome for your customer.
Hopefully we’ll see how well these values are instilled.
“They have lots of people, lots of servers, they have Android, they have Google Docs, they just bought Motorola. Most people would say ‘we’re the users, and the product is advertising’,” he said. “But in fact the advertisers are the users and you are the product.”
Then he went further. “They say their goal is to gather all the knowledge in the world in one place, but really their goal is to gather all of the people in the world and sell them.”
Standard & Poor’s on Tuesday downgraded Google’s stock (NASDAQ: GOOG) to a “sell” from a “buy” in the wake of the search giant’s $12.5 billion acquisition Monday of Motorola Mobility. S&P lowered Google’s price target to $500 from $700.
That’s because in buying Motorola Mobility, Google acquired a low-margin device manufacturer with a huge payroll. In contrast, Google’s core business — online advertising revenue derived from its market-leading search engine — generates tremendous margins.
Well, it’s not like Motorola was going anywhere with their crappy Droids and Xooms. Android fans will keep enjoying their Samsung and HTC phones. Google will try to get revenge against Microsoft and Apple’s patent trove acquisition with Motorola’s 17,000 mobile tech patents. Android vendors are praising the deal—probably because they don’t want to pay any more licensing fees over patents.
MMI is up 66%, while NOK is up 25% and RIMM is up 16% with the great news.
There’s a very simple business reason why Google cares if they have your real name. It means it’s possible to cross-relate your account with your buying behavior with their partners, who might be banks, retailers, supermarkets, hospitals, airlines. To connect with your use of cell phones that might be running their mobile operating system. To provide identity in a commerce-ready way. And to give them information about what you do on the Internet, without obfuscation of pseudonyms.
Simply put, a real name is worth more than a fake one.
Google’s Business Model: YOU Are the Product via GruberWho’s Google’s customer? You? Really? When’s the last time you paid Google for anything?
Advertisers are Google’s customer. What do they sell to advertisers? They sell you. Or, at least, they rent you out, or provide access to you.
Nice view on the current status of mobile carriers and how Apple plans to, Google failed to, and Microsoft might try to disrupt their controlled, solidified grip on our wallets.
